Help me give my students the supplies they need to be successful in math! They need dice, spinners, base ten blocks, math games, write and wipe pouches, and erasers!
What does a love of learning really mean? What does it look like, and why is it important?
I have the absolute pleasure to teach twenty-seven of the strongest, most driven, and loving first graders, who have experienced more heartbreaks and upsets in their short lives than any other child I have ever met.
Their stories bring chills to my spine and tears to my eyes each and every day. The majority of my students live in the projects near our school. Some students live with just their immediate family, while others live in an overpacked area with immediate and extended family.
Others don't live with their families at all. And most of my students have already lost one of their parents or close relatives due to violence or abandonment. While these lives are nothing to be overlooked, my students and their families have still found their smiles each and every single day in our classroom.
My Project
A love of learning begins with a teacher who exhibits a love of teaching and makes it known to all of her students. A love of learning is an environment that focuses around the students and not around a teacher. A love of learning is making students feel accepted, accomplished and successful at all times of the educational day - even when mistakes are made and failure is found. A love of learning is when knowledge and stories are eagerly shared in the household and with the family at the end of every single day.
A love of learning is when the families of the students show eagerness to engage in the education along their child and their teacher.
The items I have selected directly assist my students and their families as they expand our classroom volunteer opportunities for parent run centers with an emphasis in math. I have asked for a variety of math, tools such as dice, spinners, base ten blocks, write and wipe pockets and erasers that are required for a variety of interactive math activities. In addition these materials will be used by the students during daily math problem solving to enhance their number sense. Furthermore, welcoming these families INTO our classroom in a comfortable, stress free way, it is my belief that the parents will fall just in love with learning as my students already have and together they will be able to achieve more! To top it all off, what is more fun than playing games and learning at the same time!? Well, having your family in our classroom playing those games with you! Please help us welcome our families into our classroom and into their child's education by enhancing our mathematics!
