In an elementary school, the media center acts as the heart of the campus. Students come in yearning to answer so many questions. The media center is a place for research, creativity, learning and exploring the world around us.
My students are dreamers, athletes, musicians, inventors, and explorers.
They are the future and deserve to have the same resources higher income schools could give them.
My students are more than their statistics: 100% free and reduced lunch, 2nd highest rate of poverty in the district. They are more than where they come from. They are adaptable, resilient, lovable, and so deserving.
My Project
This year in the Media Center I am creating a Makerspace! A Makerspace is place for children to explore how things work, how to build things and to learn that their own imagination is the limit. What better tool to help with this than LEGOs?
Children need a foundation on which to build and by providing my students with base plates and blocks to build with, I can create a wall for utilizing the blocks.
This will be one of several stations students can choose from to explore their creativity, A diverse group of students, many of which do not have access to such tools at home, will have the opportunity to build their ingenuity in this space.
