Help me give my students a chance to develop their thinking skills! Mathematics class should be a place of thinking and experimenting, not memorizing and mimicking! These supplies will allow my students to talk and brainstorm, not memorize!

My Project

My goal is to create mathematical thinkers instead of memorizers! I have been inspired by “Building a Thinking Classroom” by Peter Liljedahl and want to provide my students the opportunity to utilize the strategies he teaches. By using markers and vertical non-permanent surfaces (free standing white boards), students talk, think, and brainstorm topics and ideas. They are mobile, active, move from group to group and become responsible for their own learning instead of being dependent on completely teacher led instruction. Students who are active thinkers retain more knowledge and are more confident in their abilities. This project would help my students to expand their ideas, thinking, and abilities, as well as build self confidence!
