My sweet kindergarten class is full of students who are brimming with love and talents. They are all very eager to learn and always cheerful. My students are always wanting to know the 'how' and 'why' of every lesson. As a first year teacher I am lacking so many learning tools and materials that I feel my students could potentially grow from. Being that most of my students lost their homes this past year due to Hurricane Harvey, they find comfort in their classroom, and value the learning environment I have created, so much.
My Project
I will use these tools for the experiments to help my students learn in a more exciting environment. I have asked for a microwave as part of my project to help with all sorts of experiments in my classroom. I feel as having one in my room will help deepen the understanding of several lessons. For example, heating water in order to show my class what a candy cane will do in warm water. My class is so interested in knowing the step-by-step process, and having a microwave in the room will help give a more detailed understanding while seeing the whole process.
I have also asked for a new mouse for the desktop computer I have in my classroom for the students use.
Being that they are in kindergarten, my students struggle to use the adult size mouse that has been supplied by the school. I have personally watched them try to grip the mouse and struggle, but with a child sized mouse I really think it will make it less of a struggle. Technology is a huge part of education now, and for many of my students it can be tricky because some have never seen or used some of these electronics before, therefore I feel it is my part to make them as easy to use as possible.
The last thing I have asked for is a new power cord to help keep my laptop charged. My old cord is partly broken, and without a laptop I would not be able to supply my class with the proper materials.
