My Students

Learning to use technology is a must in the 21st century. My 4th graders want the opportunity to be able to check their mathematical computations using calculators, but we have none!

My 4th graders attend a public school in California.

These students are determined and hardworking! They were put into a classroom with a teacher new to the site and don't have the same tools available to the other three 4th grade classrooms. They just want the same opportunities as their peers!

My Project

It's amazing how many 4th graders haven't had any experiences using calculators. I inspire my students with technology in language arts, science, and social studies. So why not in math? Students need to be taught that tools are available in mathematics and they just need to know when, what, and how to use those tools in a given situation. I want them to see that calculators are not a short cut, but instead a method for evaluating their depth of knowledge in mathematics.

This is important to me, because I just don't have the tools now necessary to develop a full mathematical program.

I want my students to be the best they can possibly be and providing calculators will give me that opportunity.
