This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach 9th grade Algebra 1, and what I love most about my students is their genuine desire to learn and grow. Over the course of this school year, I’ve watched them make tremendous progress—not just in their math skills, but in their confidence and persistence. As a way to celebrate their hard work and success, I want to end the year with a few days of fun, community-building, and math-focused games.

These games will allow my students to continue learning in a joyful, low-pressure environment where they can work together, apply their math skills in creative ways, and boost their confidence.

The games I’ve selected—like UNO, SET, and Phase 10—are more than just fun activities: they encourage critical thinking, logical reasoning, pattern recognition, and strategic decision-making—all key components of mathematical reasoning.

In the past, students have been genuinely excited when we played games in class, but I didn’t have enough materials for everyone to participate fully. With your support, I can give every student the opportunity to be engaged, challenged, and celebrated.
