My students need LEGO Education Sets to build communication skills, fine motor skills, and foster an appreciation for mathematics used in everyday life!

As a teacher in a low-income/high-poverty area, my students are faced with many challenges both in and out of the classroom. Every child in our school receives free or reduced lunch, and a large percentage of students are considered homeless. Despite this, my students are excited to be part of a learning community where they feel safe and cared for.
Our classroom is an area where students are encouraged to work hard, collaborate with one another, and communicate clearly.
I encourage learning through exploration and value the intrinsic curiosity of my students.
Who doesn't love to play with LEGO bricks?! There is no better way to excite a classroom of Kindergarteners than letting them see what they can build (WITH THEIR OWN TWO HANDS)!
The two lego sets in this project will give students the chance to learn critical math concepts while having a blast and exploring their own creativity.
The Math Train LEGO set will give students the thrill of building and playing with a train as well as teaching basic math concepts such as counting, sequencing, recognizing patterns, and addition. The practice of constructing the train along with the tracks and seeing how they work together will also give students insight into the basic applications of engineering in everyday life.
The Cafe LEGO set allows students to explore real life situations such as going to (or working at) a restaurant while also building a knowledge of shapes, exploring patterns, and developing skills such as recognizing the parts of a whole and comparing quantities.
In addition to the required math and other STEM standards that will be met using these LEGO sets, there are numerous benefits that aren't so obvious. Students will strive to establish strong fine motor skills and follow sequences of instructions to arrive at a final goal. By working in teams, students will also be pushed to cooperate and coordinate toward reaching their targets. In addition, my classroom is full of diverse learners that require highly individualized teaching strategies and creating an engaging lesson for all my students is crucial.
There is no better way to instill a love of learning, fulfill countless educational needs, and foster creativity than to play and build members of their classroom community.
