This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My young Kindergarten STEAM scholars are just starting their educational careers. Many of them have never been in a classroom setting. They have shown such excitement when counting and working with numbers. I want to ensure they build a strong number foundation that will enable them to be lifelong mathematicians.
Research shows the use of manipulatives helps students hone their mathematical thinking by allowing them to move from concrete experiences to abstract reasoning.
In order to facilitate this, they will need multiple outlets which allow them to truly understand numbers and their values. Giving them manipulatives such as counters, magnetic numbers, ten frames, tactile number cards, and whiteboards is one way I can ensure their mathematical literacy.
