Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are enthusiastic learners who enjoy learning through play. These uno cards will help them pair up in teams where they will use the cards to add the numbered cards to add up to 10. With the use of these cards they will help them learn how to add up to 10. Once they have a sum of ten, they are to use their Mead Wide rule spiral notebooks as their journals and write down their equation. They will write their number sentences in their journals using their Favean color pencils of choice.
My goals for this project is to have students learn their addition facts, have students write number sentences and have fun learning math.
If students are having trouble adding their numbers to 10, then they will be able to use their number chart, ScribbleDo to count on.
What makes my students special is that they are a group of English learners, English speakers, Hispanics and African American population who are willing to try to learn more math via play and while they are learning they are building their mathematical fluency in adding numbers up to 10.
Additionally, they will be learning how to play fairly and take turns playing, which are life skills that will additionally help them achieve interpersonal skills by learning to solve problems and think critically as they play with Uno cards.
