My students need literacy station and small group activities. With these materials they will be able to work in independently and in small groups to build reading, spelling, and alphabet knowledge skills.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are English Language Learners. My school district is a low-income/high poverty school district, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom due to economic status and English language deficits. Despite the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences.
My students love to read, learn, and love lots of positive attention.
From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however, I can certainly control their experience during the school day. By doing this in a creative and positive way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic success.
My Project
These materials will make a difference in my students ability to work independently and feel successful with fun stations games. About 90% of my students are ELL learners. These materials will help me build the skills they need to learn the letters of the alphabet, reading words through the manipulation of the alphabet. The students need hands on materials to be able to build the fluency of alphabet recognition, for simple word building, and for building reading skills. I will be able to use the materials in my small group Guided Reading groups to help build the skills necessary for reading.
