Building Literacy Skills With FUN and COMFORT in Special Education

Help me give my students an INTERACTIVE, multi sensory, and ENGAGING special education learning experience in an environment with a variety of COMFORTABLE seating options for every unique need, and games to teach complex concepts in FUN ways!

My Project

My students are creative, high energy, and inquisitive! We love to do hands-on, multi-sensory learning to engage and include students at every level.

Alternate seating options empower my students to explore and learn where they can function to the best of their ability while interactive games make learning literacy and comprehension skills FUN and foster positive relationships by practicing learned social skills.

Our classroom focuses on building reading, writing, and comprehension skills in ways that will improve their ability to communicate in every situation. They build on their strengths and learn to use appropriate tools and resources to compensate for their disabilities or weaknesses.

All of our students are brilliant and capable, so we work hard to help them learn important literacy skills that will help them both in and out of school.

Our entire program was overhauled last year with new staff, one less teacher, and a major shift in priorities and how the program is run. We don’t use cookie cutter curriculum, but tailor the learning experience for each student. We focus on what our students CAN do and how to help them learn in the way that is best for each individual, regardless of ability level or history. It is a fresh start for many students who struggled through elementary school, and we are excited to see how much each student learned and grew in the last year in our nurturing environment with high expectations and opportunities to exercise some control in their educational environment and middle school experience. We love seeing them reach their goals!
