This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

One of the best parts of my school day is the last 15 minutes of the day when students from all classes and grade levels visit my room to check out books. They have a variety of books in English and their native languages to choose from. Students come in excited to talk about the books they read with their family, recommend books to each other, and choose new books to take home. These are the moments that build readers!

All students benefit from reading experiences with their families and all families deserve the opportunity to share reading moments together.

Many of my students have parents who read only in their native language. By providing them with books in their family's language, students build literacy skills, confidence as readers, and special memories with their families. Parents also become empowered to participate in their child's education.
