With social media at the forefront of many students' lives, it is becoming increasingly difficult to instill a love of literature in children. Fortunately, with good books, recommendations, and dedicated time, I am hoping to engage students in enjoyable reading experiences.
My goal for this project is to offer students engaging texts for independent reading.
The books I have selected have been suggested by educators and students as popular and relatable titles.
What I love most about my students and school is the diversity. The community in which I teach consists of students from a wide range of backgrounds. Some have only just come to the United States and are beginning to develop as learners of the English language, while many have lived in the community their entire lives.
The students at my school show a love of learning and community daily and are supported by many dedicated educators and administrators.
Our students do have a need, though: they need enhanced middle school literacy programs with more texts that are relevant to kids' lives.
