My students need new ink cartridges for the printer that connects to their Chromebooks, new calculators, and a label maker. These items help them build skills in organization and work completion with the right tools.
The students are active learners who benefit from working in small groups and gaining experiences through what is brought into the classroom and what they experience on community outings. They love when they are challenged and presented with a problem they have to solve within small groups or teams. They depend upon the support of the adults in the classroom (both teachers and paraprofessionals) to help them get the most out of their lessons. My students come from a variety of backgrounds including but not limited to family styles, economic status, and different learning styles. Each student brings their own uniqueness to my classroom and allows for a fun and engaging learning environment for all.
The students that I work with are hardworking and determined to make sure they are successful outside of high school.
They enjoy learning through a variety of methods of instruction, including learning through games like Chess, Yahtzee, and Monopoly. Giving them real world experiences really drives their learning and helps them to be more engaged in the lessons.
My Project
My students learn the different life skills that come naturally to others through daily instruction. Teaching them how to connect to a printer to print their own projects independently as well as how to stay organized is a lot of what is focused on. They are also taught how to use tools like a calculator to help them with budgeting so they can live independently after high school. Providing each student with access to the needed tools and supplies will help them gain the confidence needed to independently operate each tool. These life skills are essential to functioning in today’s society and building their confidence and skills will help them feel secure in their independence.
