Building Life Long Learners

Help me give my students a space to fall in love with reading! I have very limited space to store my old books that are falling apart, so these upgrades will help so much!

My Students

This last year and a half has been a struggle for everyone across the world. Kids have had to carry more on their shoulders than they ever should be asked to and we saw this as teachers when we came into their home virtually.

I saw so many students show up every morning ready to learn regardless of their situations.

Some students were set up with a beautiful workspace and a quiet background whenever they turned their microphone on to participate. Many students did not have that luxury at the Title I school I teach at though. I saw my 9-10 year old students caring for multiple younger siblings while trying to listen and follow along with lessons. I watched them share their learning with their older family members who were also working on their English. I heard chaos in the background as my students zoned in on our lesson trying their best to block it all out by moving to a dark closet or a bathroom floor. I was in absolute awe of how much these kids deal with every day, yet they never failed to show up and work hard for our virtual classroom family.

My Project

The best thing I did for my students last year was buy new books that they chose! With help from some generous family members every kid got 2-4 books to have that they picked.

These kids all of the sudden LOVED reading and could not stop telling me about their books and how they were reading them at home with their families!

My in-class library is less than spectacular. Please help me update it so I can help more kids fall in love with reading and see the power of a great book!
