Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember learning how to read? Do you remember the excitement and the sense of accomplishment you felt when you figured out those tricky words that seemed impossible?

My students are kindergarten, first grade, and second grade special education students, who are eager to read.

They are bursting with curiosity and are looking for books to captivate their interest and spark their imaginations, while strengthening their reading abilities.

My Project

Students with disabilities have been tremendously affected by the pandemic. The disruption in their education has led to greater academic deficits. This school year, we are back in the classroom, ready to help our little readers develop their literacy skills. In order to do so, we are in need of guided reading book sets, leveled reading books, emergent reading books, and high interest books.

These reading books will help students to build their reading skills by practicing taught reading strategies with teachers and independently.

The guided reading books will allow students to practice reading strategies with a teacher, engage in reading comprehension discussions, and share their ideas with their peers. The leveled reading books and emergent readers will be used independently by students. These books will reinforce what they're learning as they practice their reading in class and at home.

Some of our students' don't have many reading books at home. This makes it difficult for them to practice what they're learning with their families. My students will be able to take a book home each day to read with their families and will be able to complete a reading response assignments for homework. With your support, we can create lifelong avid readers.
