My students need two Chromebooks to help them overcome their language limitations and become adaptable to the rigors of our classroom as we study and read about different countries, communities, and cultures.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is one of the most ethnically diverse schools in the Philadelphia region. Our students come from a variety of different cultural and economic backgrounds representing many third world countries. As a Title 1 school, all of our students take part in the free or reduced lunch program. Students speak a multitude of languages including English, Spanish, Mandarin, Cantonese, and Arabic. Many of these wonderful students suffer under the weight of generational poverty.
Although we struggle without many of the basic resources, my students soldier on and strive to achieve.
However, working within the constraints of limited resources, limits my second language learners the ability to keep pace with their peers. To be effective, traditional classroom instruction must be undergirded with technological support. What this means is, without online access, my ESOL students gain limited or no exposure to online language programs. These online programs fill in the gaps and help my language learners gain access to a more level playing field in the educational acquisition. It is for this reason that I am requesting these much needed Chromebooks.
My Project
My students desperately need exposure to technological platforms that will diminish the barriers that stand between them and successful language acquisition. These Chromebooks will provide this benefit in a variety of ways. For instance, with the ability to gain access to internet, my students will be using vital language programs such as, Imagine Learning. Imagine Learning will help them help them develop the syntax necessary for cohesive language acquisition. This syntactic engagement helps students understand the correct placement of words in sentences, a vital skill to language acquisition.
In addition to syntax, these online programs help children to develop a semantic skill that many young people learn in their early educational experience.
The benefits to the visuals provided in this learning opportunity serve two purposes. First, through the opportunity to make connections between pictures and words, students are able to gain a logical sense of the world around them. In addition, a secondary benefit helps to improve a student's conceptual understanding. Through the attainment of this skill, students overcome their continued struggle with word meanings.
Your generous donation to 2 Chromebooks will improve our ESOL student's ability to acquire much needed language skills.
This will change our students' lives for the better because they will love school and feel successful.
