My Project

In a unit about Geology, students will read three nonfiction texts.

In Soil, students will learn about the ingredients, layers, and types of soil through nonfiction text features such as a table of contents, photographs, captions, and text.

In Minerals, Rocks, and Soil, students will explore the different properties and types of minerals and rocks, and build upon their knowledge of soil through new text features like diagrams and sidebars. Students will have opportunities to compare and contrast information presented in both texts.

In Twisters and Other Terrible Storms, students will learn about the different weather conditions and destructive effects of powerful storms utilizing the same text features previously seen in this unit. Repeated exposure to nonfiction text features will help strengthen student ability to make meaning from nonfiction text.
