Celebrate Black Teachers and Students
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a high school, behavior classroom in inner-city Cincinnati, Ohio. My students all have a mental health diagnosis. Struggling with their individual diagnosis at an early age held them from learning at certain times during their young lives.
Creating a reading area in the classroom so the students are able to pick up a book, plop on the floor, and wander off as they read about other places.
Creating a love for reading will continue to develop their young minds.
My Project
All of my students need to improve their reading scores. Even though their test scores need to improve, that's not why I am wanting to create reading centers. I want them to want to find a passion to read.
By creating a library of different books, the students will be able to pick a book that meets their reading level and maybe a new passion to read.
I have selected many different types of books for the students. I want them to try something new to read. I have selected easier to read books for the lower level reader and more difficult reads for the on-track reader.
This classroom project was brought to life by A group of anonymous donors
