I teach at a low income school. These students need to be given a lot of extra support to meet grade level standards. We are an AVID classroom that works on preparing our Title I students to be college and career ready. This means we focus on organization, inquiry, reading to learn, and writing to learn skills as well as strong collaboration.
College Readiness Lives or Dies in Elementary Classrooms
These skills help students to be prepared to be both college and careers ready. We are always working to improve our math skills, reading skills, exposure to high academic vocab such as those we find in our science and social studies lessons. Help us create a class of strong and engaged scholars!
My Project
I will be using the Astro Bright paper to help with our interactive science notebooks as well as our weekly parent helper letters. Students respond better to paper that is brightly colored and helps to maintain student engagement. The interactive science student notebooks allow my students to be able to have a deeper understanding of the science curriculum as well as to allow my English Language Learners to opportunity to break down high level vocabulary words. Taking notes is a skill necessary for both college and careers.
Extending Science
The Teachers Pay Teachers gift card will allow me to purchase supplemental science curriculum that aligns with my science interactive notebooks. Title I students need additional differentiation and visual learning to be able to close the achievement gap especially with higher level learning experiences such as science.
Helping Parents Help Students
The parent helper letters provide parents an opportunity to support their students in both math and reading with suggestions for each standard. The letters are provided to parents in both Spanish and English. They give parents definitions of what their student is being asked to do comprehend, examples, and ways to provide extra support at home. Using the Astro Bright paper helps them to stand out when they go home amongst all the other papers that being sent home.
