This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are two classes of energetic, excited, and enthusiastic mathematicians and scientists. We have worked incredibly hard over the past two years (I had my students in second grade too!) to build a strong culture of community and family. We support each other, encourage each other, and most importantly, we truly love one another.
In class, we love tackling new mathematical concepts and exploring the world around us!
As third graders, we are excited about being in "upper" elementary now, and we are always looking for new ways to build our independence and demonstrate our creativity.
My Project
My students love engaging with the math and science they see around them every single day. This project will help to provide my students with the tools they need to build their own independence in the classroom to become self-sufficient learners.
The Q-Ball will be used during classroom discussions as a tool to amplify the voice of the person speaking.
This will help our classmates hear one another better and facilitate smoother and more natural academic discourse. The lights and chimes will serve as natural reminders for transitions and clean-up, allowing students to manage their own work time. The science newsletters will provide our students with more exposure to non-fiction, grade-level texts about science topics occurring all around them.
Our students are most excited about the possibility of having Alexa in our classroom! Our kids ask so many wonderful, thought-provoking questions throughout the day. "Why doesn't a dolphin's blow hole fill with water when they are underwater? Why do sea turtles prefer to be solitary when dolphins like to live in groups?" I would love for students to have an Alexa in the classroom to ask all of our scientific questions and be able to receive an immediate response!
