Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school was established in 1928 and has been serving a small community for many generations. It is a Title I school where a lot of my students qualify for the reduced price or free lunch program. Many students come from diverse cultural backgrounds. There are 16 different languages spoken at my school. Most are English language learners, speaking English as their second language.

My 5-year-old kindergarten students usually come into kindergarten not knowing much, but it's amazing to watch them learn and grow over the school year.

Many students say they are having so much fun that they want to come to school even on weekends.

My Project

Kids love to build and create. It is during these times that I found my students were growing as a community, learning to cooperate with others, and bringing their ideas to life. I love watching how their minds are working when they are building and creating.

Students will have the opportunity to choose activities and anyone to work with during center time or any indoor recess time.

They will have fun magnetic tiles to build, Ultimate Blocks, and K'NEX building set will allow the students to use their imaginations and build freely, or follow directions to build a specific design which can help build working memory. I've found that students like to do these things collaboratively, so it creates an environment of cooperation and helps build friendships. All of the items requested will foster an environment where working together, many types of thinking, and problem solving skills are valued.
