My Students

I am a first grade teacher at an amazing school that is full of great students! We are a Title I school and have 100% of students who are receiving free breakfast and lunch daily. My students come from variety of backgrounds, many come from low-income households. As you may know, reading is a key foundational skill that will help our kids excel in life. Please help us to reach our goal of building fluent first graders by helping us receive a classroom library.

My Project

My class is in need of a classroom library. One of my main goals as a first grade teacher is to build fluent and confident readers. Fluency is defined as the ability to read with speed, accuracy, and proper expression. In order to understand what they read, children must be able to read fluently whether they are reading aloud or silently. To accomplish this goal my students need access to books. To build fluent readers and get students reading on grade level, we must present our students with opportunity to read at all times. These books will be used to teach several foundational skills such as reading comprehension, vocabulary, and print concepts.
