Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine growing up with parents who work from sun up to sun down on the land and only speak Spanish. You are thrown in school when you are of age and expected to at least be able to communicate basic needs. You are not. The basics are difficult and the regular curriculum is even more difficult.
The kids here are economically disadvantaged and English Language Learners.
They need more class room support in even the most basic things since the home support is usually lacking. Every child deserves the best and that is why I am asking for more resources so that I can do my best to meet their individual needs in the class room.
My Project
The cart will help to make larger visuals to get closer to students who need specific strategy help. The cart will also allow for quick access to need materials and less time interrupting lesson and more time teaching. The books are strategy specific without being as mundane as more flash cards. The words they need to know will be seen in more than just their reading texts..they will have exposure in multiple places making their experiences with words more meaningful.
When we throw vocabulary and phonics words at kids they need to continue to see the words to grasp the meaning of them actually begin using them in everyday conversation.
Including as many books and experiences possible will help with reading fluency and vocabulary building.
