This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Imagine an education in financial literacy blended perfectly with entertainment. Imagine an art form once used solely for entertainment, being also used to build character and financial intelligence. This is that opportunity!

My students are high poverty, but eager to learn, young adults who have little exposure to financial literacy and economics education.

They are middle school students who have very little exposure to the importance of understanding how and why financial education is important.

My Project

By using a portable music speaker and iPod nano, I will be able to use many different financial curriculum that offers downloads of specific music and lessons (such as "Financial Literacy Music"), to educate and inspire students to learn about financial literacy and responsibility. I can download the curriculum to the nano and play for all students, current and future, on the speaker. The curriculum includes songs that focus on financial literacy along with goals, objectives and questions to measure students' learning on the subject. It's the perfect method to draw students' interest in learning about financial literacy.

For hundreds of years, music has been a powerful voice that has told the story of current events.

Inspired by new ideas, music will go beyond simply telling the story; it will help offer solutions. Written coursework and music combine to transform the process of becoming financially literate into a hip and "edu-taining" process. This will no doubt grab the attention of all my students!
