Building English Skills Through Food & Culture Exchanges
Help me give my students ingredients to make the recipes they gather in our Voice of History Oral Cookbook and Food & Culture Exchange projects.

My Project
My English Learner students are passionate about their home cultures, including an amazing array of food and family stories that go along with that food.
I want them to build on that passion for food and family as a way to improve their reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills.
With your help, students will be able to cook recipes that they glean from oral history interviews with their elders. Once we can buy the ingredients, students will then write "grants" for cooking resources, showing that they have budgeted properly for their own recipes and that they have a solid plan on how to share the food with students who are not English Learners.
I have been a teacher for 20 years. I am more excited about this Project Based Learning plan than any unit I have taught. Your donations will help make this possible. I cannot wait to share the photos of our food and cultural exchanges!
