This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I work with inspired students who increasingly showcase a love for learning and a love for reading; especially when it is tied to topics they care about and stories that make the curriculum come alive. Working at a Title I, Urban, High School with over 80% Emergent Bilingual Students, I am always looking for ways to engage their English Language Proficiency in connection with the Texas TEKS/Learning Standards.

I am hoping to use this project to buy class sets of two novels and other learning resources that will bring Life Science to life in the classroom.

I want to further illuminate that what we are learning in class has application outside of the high school classroom. I hope to inspire their curiosity and increase their reading and writing literacy through this project.

By providing novels and learning resources to help them succeed, students will be able to come to school excited to learn without the feeling or necessity of purchasing or bringing books on their own. As they continue to work outside of school to support their families, I don't want to add another resource burden on my students.

This project will have immense impact on their science knowledge, critical reasoning, scientific analysis, overall reading, writing, and english proficiency!
