Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach a special education class for students with exceptional needs. Our students learn using an alternate curriculum. Most of our students are nonverbal, but they are able to communicate using sign language, gestures, and alternative communication devices. I have eleven curious students who do not let their disabilities limit them from learning and accessing the world around them. They are eager to learn and share what they know with everyone they meet. They are friendly and very inquisitive. Our students come to school with a positive attitude and enjoy learning and helping one another.

Students who are engaged in STEAM will become increasingly curious about the world around them and feel empowered to change it for the better.

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics to help guide student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. STEAM learning applies meaningful math, science, and technology content to solve real-world problems through hands-on learning activities and creative design. The jumbo magnetic tiles will provide opportunities for collaboration to create innovative designs. Our students will acquire vital 21st-century skills with these STEAM resources that introduce engineering, logical, sequencing, and early coding fundamentals.

Students who are engaged in STEAM will become increasingly curious about the world around them and feel empowered to change it for the better.

I want them to understand the ways that science, maths, the arts, and technology work together. They will learn to think outside of the box and take ownership over their learning. Please help me build on our STEAM materials that will empower my little engineers to feel safe to express innovative and creative ideas.
