Building Engaged Mathematicians Through Walls Filled With Whiteboards!

Help me give my students the opportunity to get up out of their seats and work on vertical whiteboard surfaces! We need whiteboards, lots of dry erase markers and erasers!

My Project

Vertical is better than horizontal. At least that's what studies by Peter Liljedahl (author of Better Thinking Classrooms) shows! To get faster and longer engagement from students, they need the opportunity to be up from their seats working on whiteboards! Working in small whiteboard groups provides the opportunity to try and experiment, fail forward, and try again!

I'm trying to bring this opportunity to life for my students because I want them to experience math in a way that frees their minds from the monotony of notes and worksheets.

I'm going to fill my white cinder block walls with whiteboards so that all students can be up and engaged and participating in math discussions! Having dabbled in this a little bit this year with my current students, I can report that they PREFER this method of learning.

My students want to learn. We unfortunately live in a time that is dominated by personal technology and constant access to social media apps which have drained students of their ability to focus during traditional instruction. My students are looking to break this cycle and they're coming into the important 7th grade year where they start to ramp up for high school math.
