My Project
Our elementary library plays a vital role in helping students in grades 3–5 grow as curious, thoughtful, and compassionate learners. By adding high-quality fiction and nonfiction books that feature diverse characters, global challenges, and real-life stories of resilience and kindness, we can support our Project-Based Learning (PBL) work focused on empathy and understanding. Through literature, students will learn to see the world through the eyes of others—whether it's a child living through a natural disaster or a peer navigating poverty, disability, or discrimination. These stories help students connect emotionally with people whose lives are different from their own and deepen their ability to understand feelings, experiences, and perspectives.
Students will use these books as launch points for PBL inquiries into human needs, social issues, and community solutions.
Through discussion, journaling, and collaborative projects, they will explore ways to take action—whether by raising awareness, supporting causes, or designing ways to help others in their school or community. We will measure their growth in compassion through self-reflections, peer feedback, and project outcomes that show how they translate understanding into meaningful responses. Your support will help us fill our library with books that not only build literacy, but also shape caring, informed, and active citizens.
