Help me give my students the opportunity to experience a behavior shift challenge and a water walk. Students will carry these cans filled with water during a culminating event in March near United Nation's World Water Day.
My students come from the cities of Maplewood and Richmond Heights in Missouri. I teach freshman, sophomores, juniors and seniors in the classes of Spanish I, II, III, and AP Spanish Language and Culture.
Many of my students are passionate about making a change in the world, and I want to foster a sense of empathy.
Many of my students do not think about their individual impact or uses of water or that it is a limited resource. This project will also benefit the students of AP Environmental Science who are going to complete a module on Access to Clean Water. This event has the potential to benefit many people at MRH HS and this year is the first year of the project.
My Project
These requested twenty Igloo gallon water containers will make a difference in my students' learning because they will experience the challenges of carrying water and how clean water is a limited resources. These water cans will be used for two projects.
The first project is a behavior shift challenge regarding personal water use.
Students will carry these cans of water with them for 48 hours and keep a journal(audio/video/written) of their experiences of only using water from this can. This experience will illustrate the limited supply of clean water and the value of having "unlimited" access to clean drinking water.
The second project is a water walk. This water walk will take place in March near the United Nation's World Water Day. This water walk is inspired by the burden that millions of women and children bear every day walking an average of 3.5 miles to collect water that’s not safe, WE Walk for Water to raise awareness of the global water crisis and funds that save lives; this is a WE Service project.
