My Students

My students are incredible, resilient, and eager to grow.

As special education learners, they thrive in a supportive and structured environment. Many struggle with expressing emotions, understanding social cues, and managing challenges, making social-emotional learning (SEL) a vital part of their development. Despite these obstacles, they are hardworking, kind, and eager to connect with the world around them.

My Project

This project will provide my students with engaging social-emotional books that teach self-regulation, empathy, friendship, and managing emotions. These books feature relatable characters and real-life situations, helping students understand and express their feelings.

By incorporating these books into lessons, small groups, and one-on-one support, I can give my students the tools they need to navigate emotions and social situations in a meaningful way.

How These Books Will Make a Difference

Many of my students need explicit, engaging, and repetitive instruction in emotional and social skills. Stories with clear examples help them see and practice appropriate responses in a safe setting. Through these books, my students will:

Learn to identify and express emotions healthily.

Develop problem-solving and coping strategies for challenges.

Understand social interactions, like making friends and resolving conflicts.

My Goals for This Project:

1. Build a library of social-emotional books that students can access when needed.

2. Use these books in read-alouds, small groups, and individual lessons to reinforce SEL skills.

3. Create a safe space where students feel valued, understood, and confident in expressing themselves.

4. Help students apply these skills beyond the classroom, improving relationships at home and school.
