Kindergarten students learn best through play!
I try to foster this love of learning by providing experiences that include hands on activities. These math blocks can be used to help build number sense and math skills through play and exploration.
I am a kindergarten teacher in an urban school in Indiana. My school is made up of many different types of students. Our school community includes students living in poverty, students with special needs, and students who are learning English as a new language. Our goal is to give all students new experiences and to foster a love of learning.
My Project
One of my favorite things about being a kindergarten teacher is my ability to create a love of learning and a love for school. I believe that the best way to do this is through active play and exploration.
Early learning expert, James L Hymes, Jr wrote, "Play builds the kind of free-and-easy, try-it-out, do-it-yourself character that our future needs."
My students will be able to share in all of these experiences with Math Stackers. These Math Stackers will become an essential component of my math lessons and math stations. Students will be able to explore, learn, and create math experiences with this tool. These can be used to help teach 1-1 correspondence, number recognition, counting, comparing numbers, subitizing, addition, subtraction, and more!
Math Stackers will help my students build the foundation of their early number sense.
