it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We all have favorite games that we enjoyed playing in childhood. An important part of growing up is learning new skills while interacting with others.
Our students are diverse and they all strive to be "civic-minded leaders, accomplished writers, and resilient lifelong learners."
We are a K-8, charter school in an urban area. Becoming lifelong learners means building a love for learning. My students enjoy hands-on activities in which they can interact with others. They also enjoy collaborating and creating together in STEAM activities.
My Project
My students spend the majority of their day in Kindergarten doing small group learning activities in both Literacy and Math Centers. The most beneficial activities as well as the most enjoyed by students are the ones that have fun materials that are interactive and can be shared with others. Games such as Fishing for Sight Words, Pop and Add Games, and Classic games such as Boggle, Scrabble, Candy Land, and Shoots and Ladders challenge students to build words, identify colors, and more. These early children's games will help build literacy skills, phonemic awareness, counting skills, and number sense. They will also build a love for learning as they collaborate and engage in fun learning experiences with peers.
This project will help students not only build their literacy and math skills, it will also help their social-emotional development as they negotiate roles in games as well as give them a memorable tactile experience that will help foster a love of learning.
