My Students

I have worked in a high poverty school in a large urban community for 9 years. We are a school that is focused on having our students grow and learn at their own level. Many of these students do not speak English and do not have books at home. Also, many students start school below level, because though their parents apply, their children are not all able to get into preschool (there are limited spots for pre-school). These students are sweet, kind, energetic, and bright. This lack of having the proper basic skills in Kindergarten can effect students all the way from Kindergarten to older grades.

We have a lot of basic materials, now we need to scholastic readers to give students more reading materials for home.

These readers are grade level appropriate and give the students lots of basic science and social topics. It is good to give the students as many resources they can to help improve their knowledge and general reading skills.

My Project

Let's Find Out is an amazing resource for students to learn about current events, using an age appropriate text. They are colorful, and something that the students always look forward to reading. They are able to practice tracking print, which means students are pointing to the words while reading and following the text. In the past, the Let's Find Out magazines have had some of the best articles about animals. Let's Find Out magazines will provide my students with a very in depth way of learning about science and social studies. These are major topics in Kindergarten and these readers will help my students learn the content.

Your donations will provide my students with Let's Find Out magazines that will help aid in their reading skills.

I have realized that this is a resource that I should not be using as a read aloud and that my students should each have their own copy of the magazine. Having had this resource, I have seen how interested my students have become in science. I want to be able to provide this resource for my future students. Let's Find Out magazines will help my students become independent non-fiction readers.
