Help me give my students access to books that they will be able to cite and refer back to as they complete a Black History Month project and continue to learn and embrace diversity.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I am a teacher at Title 1 school in Florida where 100% of students receive free breakfast and free lunch. My classroom is comprised of students from diverse family lives with a high number of those students coming from low income families. This year has been unlike any other as my classroom is blended, meaning that I have students preserving both in person and online.
While, having a blended classroom has brought about challenges, a light at the end of the tunnel for my students has been learning more about Social Studies.
The questions that my students have about not only current events in our country but past events as well is never ending, and there isn't enough time in the day to answer all of them. I'm constantly asked when we're doing Social Studies again because their inquisitive minds seek information about the country that they call home.
My Project
Our weekly Social Studies lessons and engaging activities will be enhanced for each and every child with these books to call their own. Furthermore, students will be able to gather knowledge that will allow them to research and complete projects on the person of their choice that they will then present to the class in an effort to deepen our understanding across all cultures.
With books that showcase the lives and impacts that Blacks and/or African Americans have had on our world, my students both in the classroom and online will be able to develop and/or deepen their sense of cultural competence through literacy.
Cultural competence is incredibly critical in today's current educational climate as our students are growing up during a pivotal point in our country's history and in order to better understand the present and future, they must first learn about the past.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to read.
