Building Creativity & Team Spirit With a Class Cricut Machine

Help me give my students a cricut for creating team t-shirts and fire safe class decor (replacing paper) to build classroom community, and flexible seating for small groups.

My Students

I love this time of year! The students have come so far academically and socially, and deep connections have been made. I look back and can hardly remember not knowing these little people with whom I spend so much of my time, energy, and love. They celebrate each other, find the good in each other, encourage, and help keep each other safe. This truly has been a special year in our room.

What makes my students so special is their ability to celebrate each others' differences, yet they love being part of a team where they all feel connected.

I have students who can read 400 page chapter books and others who struggle through thin picture books, and my students find something to celebrate in each other. They are kind, cheer for each other, and are quick to compliment and help each other. They share creative ideas and are learning the life skill of appreciating another perspective. We have built trusting and safe relationships in our classroom.

My Project

When students feel part of a team, they are less anxious and more willing to take risks. Having a classroom cricut machine will allow us to make matching t-shirts and team building banners, desk tags, and door decor. Students wearing matching class shirts on field trips helps me keep an eye on them and helps them feel safe and connected. We have two field trips at the end of the year and surprising the students with matching t-shirts would be such a special way to celebrate this special year. Creating team shirts on the cricut is just one thing we will do with it.

Student art and ideas will be transformed into wall and desk tags that are unique to our classroom culture and goals.

The team spirit will soar in our room when my students take pride in their work and see it come to life throughout our room. Fire safety rules prohibit door decorations now, but we can use the Cricut machine to create fire safe door decor.

The other part of our Donors Choose request is for flexible seating with desk tops. Students love to sit on the floor and around the room, but managing books, clip boards, and /or computers can become cumbersome without a desktop. The small, lightweight seating comes with a built in desktop, so learning is the focus, not shuffling necessary items.
