Building Creativity and Confidence in Theater Class!

My Students
After spending five years at a K-5 school in Dorchester I am moving just a few minutes down the road to a K-8 school in Dorchester! Students at my new school have never had a theater teacher before and are getting ready for the adventure of a life time.
Exposure to arts education is a transforming experience.
For the first time at this school, kids will be reading plays, making costumes, building sets, learning lines and putting on shows! Students are ready for increased self esteem, enhanced creativity, improved academic performance and everything else that Theater Education has to offer!
My Project
Interacting with art is a part of being human and exposure to arts education is an integral part of child development. It's been proven time and time again that students exposed to arts have improved outcomes academically, socially and emotionally. Studies have shown that exposure to arts education can increase students' empathy and compassion for others, empower students with purpose and ownership, and decrease students' levels of toxic stress (particularly students affected by poverty). However, despite all we know to be true about the benefits of arts programs in schools, arts classes are vanishing across our nation, but not in Boston.
Where other schools are slashing arts funding and decreasing access to arts classes, my Title One school has decided to start a Theater class for students in grades K0-8!
Since we're starting Theater Class for the first time, we'll need lots of materials to get to work. Students will be building sets, designing costumes and bringing literacy to life! By donating to this project, you'll help my students get everything they need in order to have the type of experience that they deserve!
