I am looking to provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences that will spark their love of learning by discovering the fabulous world of science through the use of STEM materials.
I have 56 active, engaged first graders (28 in each Chinese dual immersion class that I teach for half a day).
These students are high achievers, and are in need of challenging tasks that will help develop deeper thinking skills. They love technology and are very tech-savvy, but I also want them to engage with materials that are NOT always technology based. Currently, I am supplementing with as much hands on discovery as I can but I am lacking the resources to do this with all of the standards I teach. My goal is to get more hands on materials in each of my students' hands to build creativity.
My Project
My students love discovering things about the world through hands-on experimentation and activities. The materials I am requesting will help make that happen, and prepare them for a future world where S.TE.M. careers have not even been created.
With these creative building items, my students will be able to explore and learn about a variety of scientific concepts.
For example, my students will become engineers and design different structures using Goobi, Magformers and other tools in order to then transform into scientists to explore the concept of force and motion. Using IQ Builder ad straw constructor, I will be able to supplement my instruction with hands-on activities that will inspire my students to continue to learn and show their thinking in other ways besides paper and pencil.
