My Students

Have you ever escaped to an enchanting world through a book? As a child books gave me the opportunity to take adventures to far off lands of wonder and mystery. They allowed me to build my imagination and to know that anything is possible. I want to give this gift of wonder and mystery to my class.

This year I have been blessed with an amazing and sweet group of students who have an amazing love for books.

Whenever they finish their work, they always ask if they can read a book from our classroom library. Our school is just starting its second year and we have a very limited amount of resources available to us, especially since our student enrollment has grown significantly. As a veteran teacher, I have a large collection of books on tape and CD, however, we are lacking the most important piece... We need a listening station for our classroom.

My Project

This listening center with headphones will be used as a literacy station in my classroom. My students will visit this workstation daily as they continue to build vital literacy skills. Listening centers are valuable tools in a primary classroom for many reasons. They allow students to explore new worlds as seen through the eyes of an experienced storyteller. They help children to recognize words as well as to help them develop fluency, expression, intonation and story comprehension while they are listening to and following along with the story.

Almost half of my students speak another language at home.

Their main exposure to the English language is found in our classroom setting. Your donation will allow me to give them more exposure to the English language, build valuable literacy and language skills, further foster their love of reading and most importantly, help me give them the gift of developing their imagination as they escape to far off lands filled with enchanting journeys to new places that can only be found in a book!
