I have the best job ever- I am the Librarian in a small, rural farming community for the last 20 years. The students are vibrant, full of life, and embrace each day with a readiness and willingness to learn. Many students are migrant and over half of our student population are considered at or below poverty level, but we refuse to let any statistic define our awesomeness.
Starting each day with hugs, high-fives, and laughter makes us more than a school, it makes us a family.
Students know they come into a safe environment that is full of love, trust and respect, able to leave behind the worries of the day. You can see the camaraderie throughout the grade levels, as a sixth grader joins a first grader eating breakfast alone, or as several grade levels meet in the library to participate in the current reading challenge . Students come together in the library to read together, to practice coding skills, to draw or color during recess, or to chat quietly with friends. My Project
I am finding not as many students are reading for fun so I want to guide the student in creating art projects that can help them remember some of the books that I have read to them. This can also help the students create a project that can promote a book that they have read to encourage other students to enjoy reading.
I am hoping that by combining both the reading and the hands on project the students may learn to enjoy reading for themselves.
Help me give the students at our school the opportunity to reinforce the influence of the literature in their lives with creativity.
