My Project

Across the country, too many students are struggling to read at grade level—a literacy crisis with lasting impacts on academic achievement, future opportunities, and social equity. As an Intervention Coordinator working daily with striving readers, I’m committed to changing that narrative.

I’m requesting support for two powerful resources that will help unlock reading success: decodable chapter books, poems, and reader’s theater plays.

Decodable chapter books provide essential practice for students who are still mastering phonics patterns. Aligned with structured literacy and the Science of Reading, these books offer connected, engaging texts that allow children to apply what they’ve learned during phonics instruction—while experiencing the pride of reading a “real” book from start to finish. These resources reinforce decoding skills, support fluency, and help build the reading stamina our students need.

Reader’s theater plays complement this work by boosting fluency, expression, and comprehension in a collaborative, joyful format. As students rehearse and perform short, decodable scripts, they build prosody, practice purposeful rereading, and grow more confident in their abilities—all while having fun.

Many of our readers benefit from explicit, multisensory, evidence-based instruction. These resources—used during small-group interventions, WIN (What I Need) time, and independent reading—will provide authentic, meaningful practice that aligns with their needs.

I’m requesting classroom sets of leveled decodable chapter books and a collection of high-interest, phonics-aligned reader’s theater scripts to support a wide range of skills and grade levels. These tools will help close the literacy gap, foster a love of reading, and ensure our most vulnerable learners are set up for long-term success. Thank you for believing in the power of literacy for all.
