My Students

I am a special education teacher in a small school district just outside of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Specifically, I provide reading and math support to students, as well as providing behavioral, social/emotional, and adaptive skill support.

My roster includes an extremely diverse group of students in kindergarten, first grade, second grade, and third grade.

Despite the challenges they often face in the school environment, my students are incredibly hard workers. They put so much effort into their learning and love to see the progress they have made!

My Project

As a special education teacher, I am able to provide individualized support at each child's ability-level rather than grade-level. As a result, my classroom is often the place where students begin to gain confidence in reading. Students who never wanted to read before suddenly can't get their hands on enough books! As a result, I am constantly looking for new books to add to my classroom library.

When purchasing new books, I carefully choose books that my students can read independently, including books that focus on high-interest topics and books with diverse characters.

This project requests 50 books that meet those unique needs. My students LOVE when I bring new books into the classroom, so I know that these books will be greatly appreciated and regularly used!
