Help me give my students high-interest graphic novels to read during free time. These books support struggling readers by combining visuals and text, helping build confidence, comprehension, and a love for reading.

My Project
My students are high schoolers who receive special education services in a Learning Resource classroom. Many of them have reading disabilities, are below grade level in comprehension, or struggle to stay engaged with traditional texts. Graphic novels are a powerful tool to support their learning. The combination of pictures and simplified dialogue helps students better understand plot, tone, and character development—skills they often find challenging. These books will give them more access to stories they can actually enjoy and feel successful reading.
These graphic novels will help my students build reading confidence and choose books independently.
One of my biggest goals is to create a classroom where students read by choice, not just for assignments. Graphic novels provide the perfect bridge between visual learning and literacy. By making high-interest, accessible books available during free time, I’m helping students form positive reading habits that they can carry beyond school. My students are funny, creative, and capable—and they deserve materials that meet them where they are and encourage growth.
