Building Confidence and Skills Through Math Games

Help me give my students the opportunity to grow and enhance their skills with fractions. Through games, students can build their math skills and confidence finding equivalent fractions.

My Project

The game Fractions Wild is a card game reminiscent of Uno. Fractions Wild, as the name of the game alludes, has a different fraction on each card along with a color. Students play the card game just as Uno is played. Strategy must be used to know when and how to place cards to achieve the goal of being first to lay all cards in a hand down. Knowing how to lay cards down depends on recognizing and knowing what fractions are equivalent.

Recognizing and finding equivalent fractions is a challenging skill for students.

Many of my math students in our Title I school are performing one to two grade levels below sixth grade. Reinforcing and learning skills through games is both engaging and motivating to students. Games also teach students life long skills of problem solving and learning how to work together.
