Building Compassion Through Language and Actions for Every Child

Help me give my students a dollhouse, books, cooperative play games and manipulatives to foster empathy and compassion through language development and uplifting one another.

My Project

My class of Pre-K students come from mostly multilingual families. Many of my students just started learning English this year, but I have noticed how some can be very thoughtful with one another even without knowing English while others are not quite there yet. They have so much that they want to say and share with each other and have made progress in their language and literacy skills since the beginning of the year. I want to add these materials into my classroom to provide more engaging materials to help my students continue to increase their language development to express their thoughts and teach how they can care for each other through role-playing and adult modelling/facilitating.

By donating to this project, you will be making a difference in our young learners to help them build kindness, empathy and compassion for each other through their use of language and actions when socializing with each other.

In Pre-K, we use a combination of checklists, photo-taking and anecdotals to document student learning. Through these documentations, some students may need more individualized support while others may be ready to demonstrate/verbalize their learning and understanding of what it means to be kind and thoughtful. The dollhouse set, books, felt board pieces and cooperative games will provide materials that will encourage my students to speak kindly, turn-take and problem solve with each other.
