Building Compassion Through Inspiring Updated Reading Group Books
My students need updated reading group books that teach compassion and perseverance for living in today's world. Wonder is a current book made into a movie that will help encourage my students to read relevant stories.
My students are curious about the world around them. They are learning more than just reading, writing and math. These students come from different backgrounds, cultures and different types of families. They are learning to work together to create a caring classroom community.
They are critical thinkers learning to collaborate, and communicate with each other to explore the world.
With creativity, they are problem solvers. Each student is learning to be an advocate for themselves and their classmates.
Each day we are working on empathy towards one another and those arounds us. We are learning to accept each other's differences and embrace our uniqueness. This is just one of the many skills we learn in school beyond reading, writing, and math.
My Project
In my classroom, I have excited readers and I have reluctant readers. I am hoping with these new inspiring reading books that I can reach those reluctant readers and create a more compassionate classroom with all of my students.
Using books made into movies helps create curiosity and passion for reading.
The book Wonder was made into a movie that teaches empathy and compassion for classmates who are different from you. Each of my students are different from each other and we are learning to embrace our differences.
As a STEM school one of the skills we are trying to teach our students is empathy. Empathy is a difficult skill for children to learn and understand. I am hoping that through our reading group discussions that we can explore some of those areas.
