Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
One cold day in February, a 3-4-month-old baby Guinea Pig, and her sisters were found wandering around the front yard of our school. Our class adopted and named one of the babies Bella Cutie Pie. My students fell in love with our new class pet and had lots of questions about her needs and how to best care for her. They are so eager and excited to help her be happy, grow up to be healthy, and shower her with love and caring. Caring for a pet, like caring for others, takes nurturing. even amongst the youngest members of our society, who are born with a natural understanding of how to love and why love is so important in our world. I want my students to understand that the love and care they share with their families and friends is normal to give to the other living things on our planet.
I would like for my students to learn how to nurture their love and curiosity for other living things by caring for a class pet.
The pet supplies that I have selected will also help my students engage in scientific observation and better understand what a veterinarian does in a real-world way. The supplies will provide our pet with basic needs, but others will provide students with the opportunity to observe our pet's behavior and habits. This will help them to answer some of their big questions. I know that these supplies will ultimately help both our community and their compassion to grow as the children work together and learn to provide for our small, beautiful, wonderful, and important pet. By caring for her I hope they also learn that even though they are small, beautiful, and wonderful they can be important to our world too.
