Building Community

Help me give my students Dungeons and Dragons books and board games to mentor others in the community.

My Project

A school is influenced by its surrounding community, so building a positive relationship is vital. One of the ways our school does this is by offering themed nights, such as Literacy Night, Math Night, among others. Students assist and earn community service learning hours by running the booths. For example, they may teach a game or lab activity at a station, read and/or entertain younger kids as many families bring their siblings and cousins, or help with set up and clean up.

Roll for initiative!

Our Dungeons and Dragons Club is very active and meets frequently throughout the week. They would like to earn community service learning hours by assisting during one of these themed nights by mentoring newcomers and teaching them the game. These books and board games provide the setting, additional character creation options, and a campaign, which does allow for an easier entry point if someone has never played previously. Not only will they be mentoring others in our school and surrounding community, they will help to build the amazing skills Dungeons and Dragons exemplifies (problem-solving, communication, strategy, risk assessment, critical thinking, and so much more!) in others as well as in themselves.
