This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I love building community in my classroom! We build community in a number of ways, such as with team building activities with marshmallows and toothpicks, to aspects of our classroom like class jobs.
I am always looking for new ways to build community within my classroom.
Two years ago I received white t-shirts for all of my students. I decided to tie-dye the shirts with my students. It was one of the most fun projects I have ever done with the students. From using the rubber bands to tie the shirts up, to actually dying the shirts, to eventually receiving the shirts, the whole process was fun. It was an interesting project because it built community. They were all excited that our class got to do the project, they showed other students in different classes, but it also fostered individuality because the students each go to create their own design. The students had a lot of pride showing off their shirts and I had numerous parents come and tell me how much fun their child had creating their shirt. This is a project I would like to complete every year if possible.
The white boards included in this order are to replace some very old ones we have in our room that the students can no longer erase. We use whiteboards every day for a number of different activities, but especially math. Please help fund this project to give community building opportunities to this class.
